Restaurante Tokos

Classiest meal we had in Funchal run by a friendly and very hard-working couple. Very enthusiastically recommended but not a budget choice.

This place has amazing food. From greeting to leaving is impressive. Phillipe welcomes you, cooks all your meals, and the food is amazing. It takes a bit longer, but to be fair, phillipe makes and serves the food faster than a lot of the other restaurants we went to. This place will not disappoint.

Fantastic little restaurant. The chef comes to talk to you about the menu and all the fresh fish they have that day. Everything is freshly cooked, you get as much veg and potatoes as you need and is honestly one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had. Wonderful service and wonderful food Recommended completely!

Patience is a vertue. A vertue that is rewarded. The chef will honour you with a meal that surpases any other restaurant near or far. Because it is all done at order with the most fresh ingredients without cutting corners or using industrial food enhancers. The service is done in style. Tissue rather than paper serviettes. All with a friendly and attentive touch. Don't even bother if you are not able to wait for your turn to be served.

A small cosy restaurant of 11 tables. The food gets 5 out of 5. The best meal we had the whole week. But be cautioned. This is a small restaurant run by owner and wife. Felt like Fawlty Towers with Basil, Manuel and the chef rolled into one. The food takes a while to arrive but it was fantastic. Order drinks, have a chat and wait for the food. It is worth it. Highly recommended if you not in a rush. Black scabbard fish with banana. Outstanding

Best meal of the holiday here. We walked past the restaurant a couple of times and decided to book for our last night - another couple were also booking and said the food was excellent, they certainly were ’t wrong. The restaurant is small (11 tables) and is staffed by the owner/chef and his wife/waitress. Old school charm and service, the food was simply superb. Recommend booking as walk-ins may be turned away and as others have commented, the service is relaxed and unhurried - expect 2-2 1/2 hours for dining. We rarely eat 3 courses but we just had to share a desert. The house wine was also excellent. Recommend the French style Onion Soup au Gratin (as good as any we have had in France), Pepper Steak (Fillet - medium with vegetables and a side of Sautéed potatoes), Chicken Curry and Flambéed Banana You will not be disappointed

Very cute and small Restaurant. The chef itself presents the fresh fish and prepares it! Serves an amazing garlic butter sauce with the fish - very delicious.

We had a great meal in Tokos. When we visited, it was just chef Philippe acting as front of house, waiter and chef. It was a very personalised dining experience with excellent food and drinks options. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Funchal.
